Putrajaya, 25 June 2025 – The President of Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH), YBhg. Dato’ Haji Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman, called for stronger cooperation and synergy among regional Islamic organizations to build a resilient ummah. His keynote address was delivered at the Mahabbah Gathering of MSEALP with the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) at The Everly, Putrajaya.
In his speech, Dato’ Ahmad Azam urged for deeper unity among Southeast Asian Islamic NGOs to strengthen da’wah movements, counter Islamophobia, and uphold universal humanitarian values. He recalled the rich Islamic heritage of the region rooted in scholarly traditions dating back to the 13th century.
“We must craft new da’wah approaches that are strategic and embody ‘rahmatan lil alamin’,” he stated, emphasizing the need for a united narrative and collective action plan to confront global challenges encompassing culture, politics, and media.
He also announced MSEALP’s plan to expand its network and collaboration through the Southeast Asia Islamic Symposium, which will convene regional scholars, thinkers, and activists regularly.
YB Senator Dato’ Setia Dr. Hj. Mohd Na’im bin Hj. Mokhtar began his speech by referencing a Quranic verse from Surah Al-Hujurat, highlighting the divine purpose of human diversity. He stressed the importance of uniting the Muslim ummah across borders, ethnicities, and cultures.
“Malaysia, as a nation championing the Malaysia Madani vision, must lead as a hub of moderate Islam in the region,” he said. He affirmed that the strength of the ummah lies in unity, knowledge, and courage to present a balanced and contextual face of Islam to the world.
The Minister reiterated the government’s full support for regional Islamic organizations like MSEALP, particularly in advancing the narrative of merciful Islam and countering Islamophobia and extremism. He urged NGOs to be messengers of an Islam that soothes, educates, and unites all of humanity.
“I believe this platform not only unites Islamic voices in Southeast Asia but can influence global Islamic discourse with its values of moderation and universal humanity.”
The event, held from 8.00 PM to 10.00 PM, began with the arrival of VIPs, the national anthem, and a prayer recital. Following the keynote speeches, guests were treated to a dinner accompanied by a montage screening titled “Islam Blossoms in Southeast Asia.”
